Northern Friends Peace Board

Northern Friends Peace Board (NFPB) is a Quaker peace organisation that supports Friends (and others) in taking action for peace across the North of Britain.

Overview

Northern Friends Peace Board was set up in 1913, when Friends in the north of England met in York and agreed to create a dedicated body to strengthen Quaker peace witness in the region.

Its founding purpose is still a clear statement of intent:

“To advise and encourage Friends in the North and through them their fellow Christians and citizens generally, in the active promotion of peace in all its height and breadth.”

Today, NFPB brings together representatives from northern Quaker Area Meetings, organising events and producing resources that respond to current issues and the concerns of Friends.

NFPB’s work

In practice, NFPB helps turn the Quaker peace testimony into shared learning and public action. Its work typically includes:

• Organising events and activities
  Bringing people together across the region to explore peace, nonviolence, and the realities of conflict in the world today.
• Producing practical resources
  Creating materials Friends can use in meetings, study groups, campaigns, and local peace education.
• Responding to live issues
  Offering Quaker-shaped reflection and encouragement as new crises, wars, and justice questions emerge.
• Connecting people who care about peace
  Strengthening networks between Quakers and peace-minded allies so that local witness is not isolated.
